It is always a delightful celebration when we have a cohort of interpreters graduating from the “Introduction to Community Interpreting” course, but at the end of July it was double-special because we had two graduating cohorts!

9 interpreters completed the online course in May, and 21 interpreters successfully passed the final assessments of the in-person course that finished a couple of weeks before the graduation. We welcomed many of the graduates, their friends and family members to the graduation event on 24th July at Nottingham Refugee Forum’s Café Narjis.

“It was a really nice experience to join the training class of interpreting course with Voices in Refuge. I have learned a lot from Barbara and Halima.”

“You all delivered the course really well and made it interactive and informative. I have taken some valuable tools and a better insight to the world of interpreting. Whether I pursue a career in interpreting or not, you have given me a good understanding and how it actually should be like.”

All attending graduates received their certificates and shared memories of their time on the course together. A lively evening of pride and celebration was made even more special with a delicious mediterranean buffet provided by Café Narjis catering team.

Congratulations, interpreters!
Congratulations, interpreters!

“I would like to thank you for the opportunity to meet you up in my journey here. I know it is only the beginning, but I want to share the joy of what I have learned so far.”

Congratulations to all interpreters! We hope the course was just the beginning of your journey as professional community interpreters, and that you’ll consider joining the Voices in Refuge team as we grow and develop our services.

Here are a few photos from our graduation party:

We are now receiving applications for the next in-person course in September, which is offered free of change to all participants thanks to a generous grant from the National Grid Community Matters Fund.
