Earlier in December, we welcomed a record number of interpreters to attend the End of Year Graduation party, as we celebrated the achievements of the last 3 cohorts of interpreters. We hosted representatives from the August online course, as well as the September and November in-person course participants – about 50 graduates in total.
The festive atmosphere was buzzing with conversations in multiple languages, and the smell of food from around the world filled the air of the Café Narjis at Nottingham Refugee Forum.
Each graduate was presented a certificate and awarded a thunderous applause from fellow graduates, friends and family members. Congratulations, Interpreters!!!

SPECIAL GUESTS
We welcomed special guests, Joanna and Angela from the East Midlands Regional Group (EMRG) of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, who have enjoyed the celebratory spirit and were inspired by the sense of pride and achievement felt by each and every graduate. Our interpreters were invited to join the EMRG and access the benefits of networking with other language professionals, including those working in the international development sector, and have access to workshops and events to help their professional development.
What our interpreters said about the course:
"Everything was great, especially the teaching team, who really put all their energy into teaching the material and answering all the questions, and they answered all the questions patiently, and were also well-mannered and kind."
"I would like to say thank you so much to everyone who worked on this training including Barbara, Tetiana, and Matt, they are all very professional and lovely people."
"Thank you, the course was awesome, Barbara was informative and fun in the same time we enjoyed her teaching, also the last lecture by Tetiana was very important and helpful, thanks to Matt, Barbara and Tetiana for the course and support."
We would like to thank Nottingham Refugee Forum for hosting another celebration, the Café Narjis catering team, led by our very own multitalented interpreter/baker/entrepreneur Halima, for amazing food, and to Nottingham City Council and National Grid Community Matters Fund which provided funding for the courses, making them free and accessible to asylum seekers and refugees.
We hope you have wonderful Christmas holidays & all your dreams come true in 2026!
We are now receiving applications for the next Community Interpreting courses in January & March 2026.
